Introduction

The Well-Being Index is a critical measure of employee wellness and satisfaction within UNDP. It provides insights into how employees perceive their overall well-being in the workplace, which directly impacts productivity, engagement, and retention. The index is composed of five key components: Care, Belonging, Workload, Recognition, and Respect, each representing essential aspects of workplace well-being.

Organisational Objective

The organizational objective is to achieve a Well-Being Index score of 70 or higher across all business units. This target reflects UNDP's commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive, and healthy work environment where employees can thrive both professionally and personally.

Data

The Well-Being Index data is collected through the same engagement survey used for the Engagement Index. The survey is administered by Glint and is completely anonymous to ensure honest feedback from employees.

The data is not available in the UNDP Data Warehouse due to its sensitive nature. Instead, it is processed and aggregated to protect individual privacy while still providing meaningful insights at the organizational level.

For bureau-level analysis, since individual-level data is not available for privacy reasons, the calculation uses office averages weighted by the number of people in each office to derive bureau averages. This approach ensures that larger offices appropriately influence the overall bureau score while maintaining data privacy.

Calculation of Scoring

The Well-Being Index is calculated using the following formula:

Well-being Index = (Care + Belonging + Workload + Recognition + Respect)/5

Each component represents a specific aspect of workplace well-being:

  1. Workload: Evaluates whether employees feel their workload is manageable

  2. Care: Measures whether employees feel cared about as a person at work

  3. Recognition: Assesses employee satisfaction with the recognition or praise received for their work

  4. Respect: Evaluates whether employees feel they are treated with respect and dignity

  5. Belonging: Measures whether employees have good working relations with team members and feel valued within their team

The final score is a simple average of these five components, resulting in a score between 0 and 100.

Traffic Light System

The Well-Being Index uses the following traffic light system to visually represent performance:

This system allows for quick identification of areas that are performing well (green), areas that need attention (orange), and areas that require immediate intervention (red).
